Telepsychiatry has helped many people who do not have access to mental health care receive treatment. There are very few specialized psychiatric services that deal with the deaf and hearing impaired. There are even fewer mental health providers that are proficient in ASL (American Sign Language) and can help those with hearing disabilities. Telepsychiatry can provide mental health treatment to the deaf and hearing impaired with specialized video conferencing software. There are approximately 37 to 140 out of every 1000 people in the US who have some sort of hearing loss. In the more severe cases this can make it difficult for mental health providers to communicate with their patient unless they know sign language. Telepsychiatry can help those who have a difficult time hearing or no hearing receive the mental health treatment they need. Research at John Hopkins showed that hearing loss is often times accompanied by mental health problems which makes it so important for those patients to receive care. Technology has helped so many people with hearing disabilities which is why telepsychiatry makes perfect sense.

e-Psychiatry is working with mental health clinics, hospitals and county behavioral health clinics to provide these facilities a mental health provider through telepsychiatry for the hearing impaired population. They understand that it is important for those with hearing disabilities to receive treatment and have easy access to mental health providers which can make a huge difference in their quality of life. If you would like to add a mental health program for the hearing impaired at your facility, you can contact e-Psychiatry through email at Support@e-Psychiatry.com or by phone at 662-269-4696.
